Tactical Handcuffing Course
Proper training in the use of handcuffs is vital to officers. Handcuffs are among the most often used tool by officers, yet training is severely lacking. Studies show that over 67% of resistance by subjects occurs after the first handcuff has been applied. All too often the result is injury and/or death to either the officer or subject. The techniques presented are practical and effective. Topics to be covered include the safest approach and positioning for handcuffing, handcuffing resistive subjects, removing handcuffs, and the use of various type of cuffs, among others.
The curriculum includes:
• Lawful use of force
• Physical force in making an arrest
• Submission of combative persons
• De-escalating critical situations
• Working with law enforcement
• Use of force with 3rd parties
• Restraint types
• Application of restraints
• Monitoring of restrained persons
• Transportation of restrained persons
O.C. Pepper Spray Course
One of the most common law enforcement/ security tools in use today, this course focuses on the proper deployment of Oleoresin Capsicum (OC). The course is separated into lectured-based studies followed by practical application drills. The course covers topics such as tactical considerations, decontamination/first aid, protective masks and criminal and civil liabilities, policies and procedures.
The curriculum includes:
- What is O.C. (Oleoresin Capsicum)
- Use of Force Law
- How To Choose Your O.C. Device
- How To Carry
- Deployment Techniques
- When to Use a Defensive Spray
- Multiple Applications
- Effects of O.C.
- When To Disengage
- Decontamination Procedures
Upon successful completion of these courses students will be provided a certificate of completion certifying them on the use of OC / Pepper Spray products and the use of Chain, Hinged, Rigid and Disposable (Tri-Fold or 'flex' cuffs.).
Fit for Duty: These courses involve physical exercises. Students are required to actively participate in these exercises as part of their successful completion requirements. Students should be physically prepared for these classes in order to ensure successful completion of the courses. This course involves exposure to chemical agents as well as the physical exercises. Students with physical conditions that may impair their ability to participate are responsible for contacting their physician for medical clearance prior to enrollment. Conditions requiring such consultation include but are not limited to high blood pressure, heart problems, lung problems, to include bronchitis and asthma, or allergies. Damon Finch Power Sessions will not assume responsibility for any students who do not seek medical consultation prior to course participation. Any student who is unable to participate in the exercises cannot receive a certificate of completion. It is incumbent upon the student to ensure they are physically capable of meeting the requirements of the courses.
Notice to students:
Students of this course will be exposed to Oleoresin Capsicum as a requirement for their successful completion certificate. Students who have undergone any type of eye surgery in the past 12 months must notify the Damon Finch Power Sessions prior to enrollment in an OC Aerosol Projector course. Typically, patients who have undergone eye surgery require approximately six months for complete recovery. In order to provide the greatest margin of safety, Damon Finch Power Sessions STRONGLY advises that any student who has undergone eye surgery to delay participation in this class for a full calendar year from the date of surgery.
